Archers don't do much damage, so on their own they are not too much of a threat. They can become more of a pain if they are firiong at you while you are fighting another unit. They can disrupt your attacks and leave you open to being hit.
Its usually best to deal with archer first and they are pretty easy to kill when you are in close.
To avoid arrows, either block them or jump over them.
