Race Specific Units
Battle Axeman

Orcs of the North only
Low armoured unit but with a very powerful attack. Useful within a group of other units to provide the occasional devastating blow. Good against mounted units.
Can be countered by spearmen and archers.
Ranger

Wood Elves only.
The ranger is similar to the standard archer, but with more armour, longer range and a faster firing rate. They take longer to prepare, but will get more arrows flying.
Can be countered by fast moving and heavily armoured units
Axe Thrower

Orcs of the South only
Ranged unit. More powerful than archers, but with less accuracy and less range. Can be unpredicable.
Counter in a simiar way to archers, or by taking advantage of the archers longer range attack
Flailer

Undead only
These units have a very poweful attack. Very dangerous in charges.
Giant Troll

Mountain Trolls only
The most powerful unit in the game. Will often kill a unit with one strike. Is expensive and takes a long time to prepare.
Can be countered by a load of archers, or sometimes by simply avoiding. As they take a long time to prepare and still only count as 1 unit, often it might be bettter just to send greater numbers of men along all the channels where they are not.
Javelin Thrower

Men of the West only
Ranged unit. These units have a ranged attack, but it is a relatively short ranged attack, also they are fast moving for a ranged unit, so are best used more offensively than, for example, archers.
Can be countered by longer ranged units, or well armoured units.
King's Guard

Human Alliance only.
Skilled, well armoured unit. This elite warrior is most effective against lone units including mounted units.
Can be countered by clusters of units.
Whirler

Night Elves only
This unit has a very rapid attack which makes it very dangerous in most situations, but especially against lone units. Very dangerous in charges. Can carve though groups of archers.
Can be countered by clusters of well armoured units.
